Food is an integral part of health. It is the fuel for energy. It provides the nutrients we need for growth and repair of body tissues. It is also a social lubricant and a daily source of pleasure. Depending on our choice of food we can satisfy these aspects of health. If we get it right we can enjoy high levels of energy to move us through daily activities, feel well rested, manage our weight, stress and stressful situations easily.

What is wholefood?
Wholefoods are foods that are closest to their natural state and that means they give us more nutrients than packaged or processed foods.
What happens when we eat wholefoods.
Our body receives all the nutrients it needs including protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. During digestion, proteins are broken down to amino acids; fats to fatty acids and carbohydrates to glucose. These then combine with oxygen in a series of combustion reaction to release energy. 60% of this energy is dissipated as heat. About 40% of the energy from combustion of foods is stored as chemical energy. This energy is used to provide fuel for brain cells, muscles, lungs, kidneys and other vital organs and to produce essential secretion of hormones. Good thing about whole food diet is it encompasses diets like raw, organic, paleo, nourishing traditions and vegetarian or vegan diets (plus many more). Anyone can eat a wholefood diet without adhering to a restricted diet.
What happens when we eat processed foods.
Many processed foods have large amounts of sugar and fats which are just cheap “filler”. Eating this way starves bodies of nutrients, which is why people who eat a lot of processed foods are always hungry. Processed foods are often filled with chemicals and preservatives that give food flavor and a long shelf life. These chemicals can build up, causing our body’s systems to become sluggish and even toxic.
One of the most important things to know about any diet program is that it works best if and when it becomes a healthy lifestyle habit. Diets only work for a finite amount of time, whereas healthy lifestyle changes are the true way to achieve and maintain long-term results.
